Our community agreed our values and then the children made canvas art boards to demonstrate how we feel these Christian Values should be shown in action in our school.

Friendship

We use our Heartsmart High 5 to show friendship to everyone in our community. 

So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

Responsibility

We make good decisions in our learning, relationships and in how we care for the world.

Whoever can be trusted with small things can also be trusted with large things. Luke 6:10

Forgiveness

We learn from our mistakes and give each other the chance to start again.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you: Ephesians 4:32

Creativity

We use our imaginations and explore new challenges and activities.

God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other.  1 Peter 4:10

Joy

We celebrate moments of Joy in every day and encourage one another in our achievements.

This is our reviewed vision picture.  The heart represents the loving community we are all a part of with God's hands holding us in his care.  Each child made a representation of themselves, holding a diamond to show them shining in their own unique way.

The passion flower vine, surrounding the heart, represents the passion and commitment of all those who support us in school.  This includes our local church, governors, volunteers and community groups who give their time to support the work of the school.

The rays of light shining from the heart represent God's ongoing presence with us through the Holy Spirit as we journey on in our school life.

What does Spirituality look like at St Mary's?

Ourselves: 

Our spirituality shapes us. Everyone is spiritual whether they have a faith and follow a religion or not. We seek to nurture and celebrate the unique value and self-worth of each member of our school family and to develop confident individuals.  We use Heartsmart as our RSHE scheme.  Through the Heartsmart High 5 we develop our understanding of ourselves and how to relate to others.

Others: 

We are all part of the community - here in school, elsewhere, locally and globally too! Spirituality helps us to understand how our actions can have an impact on others. We develop spirituality through how we show compassion to those around us. Our wellbeing ambassadors guide us in looking after one another as a school community.

The World: 

Each week, using Picture News, we share current events from around the world, prompting us to think deeply about the situations others face, and what part we can play in our world.  

Big Questions: 

Within our worship and throughout curriculum learning, we explore big questions to deepen our spiritual understanding. We encourage our learners to be curious and to ask their own questions, too. There is a close link between RE and spirituality, and children are actively encouraged to spend time reflecting on and asking deep questions in RE. Teachers use music, artwork, photographs, poetry and times of stillness.  Clergy members support our pupil's in considering big questions and termly reflective days help deepen our thinking and understanding in the areas of self/others/world and beyond.
